Sadie Turns Four!

Back on June 10th, our middle child Sadie, turned four years old.  And in typical Sadie-fashion, she did it up and had a smile on her face the.entire.time.  She's growing up and becoming a wonderful young lady who is so, so, sweet and loving and funny and silly all rolled up into one.

Being a fourth birthday, it seems appropriate to tell her birthday story in four parts.

Part 1:  Birthday Celebration in Michigan
Part 2:  A trip to American Girl to get a 'big girl' doll
Part 3:  SD's family party where she shared her day with Uncle Frank
Part 4:  Kid's party at the splash pad in Elmhurst

Before we get to the photos, here's a link to the post showing SD's 2nd birthday here on the blog.  I don't seem to have posted the photos from last year!  And here's the post announcing her birth on her actual *birth day*!

So, on with the four parts.

Part 1:  Celebration in Michigan.  We took the kids up to Coloma for SD's birthday weekend and we were fortunate to celebrate together.  Sadie wanted a 'teddy bear cake', and that's what she got; it even had gummy bears on it!

After cake and breakfast, we went out and spent some time on the lake together.  Ellie loves being 'the captain'!

Even big Frank got behind the wheel.  What a day together!

Unfortunately for us, the days of doing this on Paw Paw look to be coming to a close.

On to part 2:  a visit to the American Girl store in Chicago.  Being a four year old means a lot of things, but in our house, it is apparently the threshold for when one gets to adopt what SD calls a 'big girl dollie'.  And that's what Sadie did!

Nat and the kids were lucky to be joined by Grammy and Aunt Sisi:

And then, the very next day, part three of the b-day celebration hit:  The family party in Elmhurst at the Marini house.  SD got another 'teddy bear cake' and all of her favorite people celebrated her in the backyard on a really wonderful day in mid-June.

But on that day, we weren't only celebrating SD, we also were celebrating Uncle Frank's birthday.  Grammy made him his own cake and we sang while he blew out his own candles.  SD loved sharing her day with Uncle Frank.

And you know who also 'shares' something with Uncle Frank, right??!?!?

You can't slow down the Big Beefy when there's chocolate cake involved!

Here's the two Franks!

And...finally, Sadie's birthday festivities wound down with a kids party at the Elmhurst Splash Pad.  She invited ALL of her friends from school and from the neighborhood and they had a blast in their suits.  Here's Ellie and her buddy from Glen Ellyn:

The birthday girl was the Belle of the Ball!

Nat was lucky to get a hand from some "Mother's Helpers" in the shape of Ellie and Sadie's big cousins who worked hard at the party to keep everyone entertained and safe!

And...we all sang - again - to SD on her birthday!  She's a doll and I'm so proud of her growing up and being a four year old.  Next year has lots of change for us, but I know SD will just roll with it and keep smiling and laughing all day long!

Look at all the friends who love Sadie!  She had a great party with a full house.  Good job, Nat!

2023 - Our Year In Review

Well, hello there.  By now, you've received our holiday card, spotted the url on the back and decided to come check out what's doin' on here.  Before, I get into the Year In Review, I'd like to acknowledge one item and call attention to an omission on our (giant) card.   First, they can't all be 'bangers' as the kids say.    Our Griswold-inspired Paris card last year that was art directed, costumed and created by Nat is pretty hard to beat.  This year, we stuck with the full-family photo on the front, but in a much less funny way.  And, second, the omission.   I was told (by leadership) that there "wasn't room" - on the back of the card - to offer our kind regards to those who celebrate Festivus.  That oversight has been made right with the amended corrected back-side of our card you can see below: Now, on to the 2023 Year in Review for the Parrillos. Milestones and Birthdays We have, somehow, a teenager (8th grade), an 11-year-ol...

2024 - Our Year in Review

Hi there.  By now, you've received our annual Christmas card and were curious enough to come visit this here spot on the Web to see what's doing.  Good news for you:  plenty was 'doin' with the Parrillo family this past year.  But, before we get into our Year in Review, I'd first like call attention to a couple things with our 2024 Christmas card.   While we will always have a hard time topping our Griswold-family-inspired card from 2022 , this year's card includes something novel:  artificial intelligence.   And that's fitting, right?  2024 sure seems like the "Year of AI".   The AI at play here is courtesy of Google Photos and their AI Magic Eraser.  Say goodbye, trampoline in the background.  Replaced with grass and trees.  Magic, indeed. Secondly....related to this year's card, I'd like to acknowledge an omission.  For the second year in a row, I've been told by "Leadership" that there simply isn't room ...

2022 - Our Year In Review

Well...hello there.  2022 was a banner year in the Parrillo household.  We had new experiences.  New growth.  New emotions.  And new fun.  Together as a family.  There's nothing more a guy like me could want:  three strong, independent and kind kids.  And the best leader-of-the-pack in Nat anyone could imagine.   Now...on to that Christmas card.  By now, you've already received it in the mail and that's why you're here.  I'm sure you saw the photo.  And, you either laughed.  Or....wondered what the heck is going on? I'm certain that *some* of you are in on the joke, right?  This was a little moment of joy in 2022 when Nat surprised us all with these embroidered berets right on the spot in Paris this Summer.  What's the inspiration?  None other than Clark and Ellen and family on their trip to Europe in the 1980's. Alright...now with the yucks out of the way, let's talk about 2022.  Despite my b...
