For the second year in a row, I was able to bring both Sadie and Eloise downtown with me for "Take Your Kids To Work Day" yesterday to participate in what Edelman Public Relations calls "Edelkids Day".
Here's the post showing last year's activities.
The kids were so excited about going to my office and we talked all about it in the days leading up to our adventure. I gave them the 'authentic' version of my day including a train ride on Metra and even had them listen in on a few conference calls. I know they had fun, but as you would expect: I had even more fun and loved every minute of it. Wish they could come with me everyday! (well...kinda.)
Here's how the day went:
We started with a ride on the Metra Rail. It was raining, so the kids braved it out on the platform with me getting wet for a bit. So glad we got a seat. Last year, we had to sit in the stairs!
I normally walk about 20 minutes across town once I get off the train. But, with the rain and their little legs, it just didn't seem doable. So, in a cab we went! Trains and cars. Check and check.
We started the morning the right way: with donuts in my office.
They the girls displayed their patience and colored while I took care of my email and sat on a few conference calls.
Ellie left me some art on my white board. Going to be VERY hard to erase this!
Then, the activities started. The first one was "Super Hero Storytelling". Both of the girls got to make up their own Super Hero, write their origin story and describe their super powers. Here they are working on their stories.
Then we got to decorate our own capes. Here's SD modeling her cape. Her super hero was named "Hart" and her power was "shooting fire". Hence the 'fire' on the back.
Off we went to a 'Citizenship' session. In the room, they had little packets of Jelly Belly beans. Eloise tried them all! Hated some. Loved some.
While Ellie was learning about Citizenship @ Edelman, SD was dancing. Or course she was.
Here's the output of Eloise's session: she wrote a letter to a service member. What a girl!
After some of the sessions, it was time for lunch. Then ice cream! What, what!
The day ended with crafts and then a magic show. Here's the girls making some crafts for Nat that they're keeping for Mother's Day. They'll reveal them come May!
Next year, will Frankie be ready? Maybe! Can't wait to do it again next year. The girls were able to learn a little bit about what I do, but most importantly, I got to show them a special "Daddy Daughter" day in the city. Lucky guy!
